Why is a S. Rosen’s Mary Ann Poppy Seed Hot Dog Bun required for a Chicago Style Hot Dog?

Our hot dog buns were specially created to handle and compliment a Chicago Style Hot Dog. We use a special high gluten formula for our buns that creates a durability that many other buns lack. The poppy seeds add a unique taste, texture and visual that balances the other ingredients. We have been proudly baking these buns since 1935, and they’ve become a classic for a reason.

What makes your rye so unique?

The key to great rye bread is an exceptional and distinctive rye sour. A sour is a living bread starter that constantly needs to be fed and cared for and we've been cultivating ours since 1909! This sour creates a bread yeast that gives our bread a depth and uniqueness that other bakeries simply cannot achieve. Our rye bread is an old world tradition kept alive and truly is something special.

Ingredients

Are S. Rosen's products gluten free?

No, all S. Rosen’s products contain gluten.

We investigated producing gluten-free products, and discovered that the only true way to guarantee a product is gluten free is to make it in a plant that does not produce any bread using gluten.  As all the rest of our products contain gluten and we do not have a spare bakery to use, we have chosen to not produce this item.

Are S. Rosen's products dairy free?

Yes, all of our products are dairy free.

Are S. Rosen's products nut-free?

Yes, all of our products are nut-free and made in nut-free facilities.

Freshness

Should I refrigerate my bread?

Please do not—refrigerating the bread causes it to dry out quickly. If you are not going to consume the product within a few days of purchasing, we recommend that you freeze it.  For example, many of our customers freeze half the loaf and keep the other half on their counter. Others freeze the whole loaf, and pull out and thaw individual slices as needed.

What is the shelf life on S. Rosen's Bakery products?

Please refer to the date on the package, which will tell you how long it will stay fresh.
You may also keep our products frozen for up to four months. Just be sure to place them in the freezer by the date on the package. You can expect freshness to last 5 to 7 days after thawing.
